CHINA IN THE Post-Deng Era

1.  Why did you select the book you brought to class?
The reason for me to select this book is that I like history and policy among in China. To me, I am very interested in how Americans people think of leaders in China, and I want find some differences between this book and what I learned in China.

2. How many authors does it have? Some books have none: they have an editor.
Only one anthor who is joseph Y.S. Cheng did this book.

3. What is the title?
The title is CHINA IN THE Post-Deng Era.

4. Who printed the book? Re-printed? Distributed in the US?
The Chinese University of Hong Kong printed this book.

5. Which city was it printed in, and when? You may find that certain books were printed again and several years are printed when editions came to market. Choose the last year and tell which edition it was. If a book was printed in 1940, 1968, 1982, you pick 1982 and count to three: 3rd edition 1982
This book was printed in Hong Kong in 1998, that is the first edition.

I like doing research on Chinese history and Policy, so that is why I select this book titled in "CHINA IN THE Post-Deng Era" that was printed in Chinese University of Hong Kong mainly talked about China ruled by Deng XiaoPing in Hongkong 1998. Author joseph Y.S. Cheng  wrote this book and it was the first edition. From this book, I want learn more about Chinese policy under Deng XiaoPing.

I picked one sentence from the book "During the 1980s the lack of concern with class credentials and the emphasis on economic growth meant that even people who are clearly capitalists were welcomed into the party.(1)

How our group members organize this presentation

How our group members organize this presentation
Last Tuesday, group 8 consists of Mohamed, Yifu Chen and Yang did a presentation about plagiarism. We divided the topic into 3 main parts, introduction, definition and the example. We introduce the topic to students respectively.
Firstly, our three members came up with our own ideas about plagiarism. Then, we thought of the process of this presentation.
Mohamed introduced what was the plagiarism to readers. Basically, plagiarism like someone copy another’s words or ideas without paying credit.
Yifu Chen did four different definitions of the plagiarism from Wikipedia and http://www.plagiarism.org/plag_article_what_is_plagiarism.html. He listed two definitions on the blog that he showed to readers last Tuesday.
Mohamed raised his case that a famous journalist Fareed Zakaria of CNN used another author's work without using as reference searched from website. He thought this is an typical example of plagiarism in the united states. He got this case from the New York Times website. “A scandal Threatens Zakaria's Image as a Media Star" from the New York Times written by CHRISTINE HAUGNEY, August, 19, 2012.
Yang Qu found a typical case of plagiarism in China that happened recently. A associate professor at Tongi University who resigned from his position after plagiarizing a test given to his student from a test given at another college.
Yang Qu thought some people in china don't care about plagiarism because the laws in China don’t enforce it as much as it is in the United States. Also, he thought another reasons for these people who do not care about plagiarism is that they got low education level, so they have no awareness of plagiarism. Among the students in China, they pay much attention to plagiarism.
He also did research about plagiarism in US College. The goal of college education is to teach students how to produce original thoughts and analyze ideas. Plagiarism adds nothing new and does not show that the student has learned nothing.
Yifu Chen and Mohamed found some ways to teach readers how to avoid plagiarism. They also chose two specific ideas that listed on blog. Through these two ideas, they hope to help readers out of plagiarism.
The goal of this presentation did by our three people was to teach readers how to avoid plagiarism and told readers what plagiarism look like in other countries. In some developing countries, people living in there probably have no awareness about plagiarism or properties, so the probabilities of plagiarism case happened in those countries is more than that in some developed countries. In some developed countries, people will get a big fine if they did plagiarism. On the contrary, people will get slight punishment if they did plagiarism.
Overall, our group members found different sources and ideas from websites. We still put forward our own ideas about plagiarism.

plagiarism

                                                                Plagiarism

Yang Qu

I choose plagiarism as my topic for this blog. Basically, most of us think of plagiarism like copying people’s work or using someone’s original work.

            In fact, the plagiarism means:

1. “Copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not” (iParadigms, 2012)

2. “Turning in someone else’s work as your own” (iParadigms, 2012)

            3. “Copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit” (iParadigms, 2012)

            4. “Changing words but coping the sentence structure of a source without giving credit” (iParadigms, 2012)

In college courses, students are often asked to write paper, some of them do not know how to write it correctly. A complete article should consist of full structure that include headline, introduction, body, conclusion and resource box, these structures consist of many resources that you can find from internet or books. When we do the resources, we can search resources that you want by any ways, but we can not copy the full ideas.

Overall, we should learn how to avoid plagiarism. Once we use another’s work, we should use quotation at the end of article. We must give credit whenever we use.

The best stoy I think is the "Raul the drummer from Chile", this story is very clearly with three paragraphs and true grammer. When I saw this story, i found it surprised me and I want to continue to read it. This story has clear topics with three main paragraphs. The author also use mark about the 13 things, it can let me count the things easily.

The worst story I think is "story with 13 things", which has no clear heading and complete structure. This story have no conclusion, so I could not find the main topic. Generally speaking, a complete story should consists with heading, main paragraphs and the last conclusion. This author write many words in each paragraphs.
